KAI is holding open auditions (adults only 18+ years) on Friday, January 24th and Saturday, January 25th for Elephant and Piggie’s We Are In A Play.

Get ready for a musical experience, ripped from the pages of Mo Willems' beloved, award-winning, best-selling children's books, that will leave audiences doing the "Flippy Floppy Floory" dance all night long! In Elephant & Piggie's "We Are in a Play!", Gerald and Piggie take to the stage in a rollicking adventure that is perfect for young audiences.

An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are best, best, "bestus" (a word Gerald and Piggie made up that means "very best") friends, but Gerald worries that something could go wrong that would end their friendship. Piggie is not worried at all. She's even happier and more excited than usual. That's because she and Gerald are invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, three singing squirrels who love to have a good time. And so begins a day when anything is possible.

Please read the following audition information thoroughly.

Adults, 18 years old +, are invited to audition.

Auditions will take place in the KANELAND Harter Middle school Choir Room. The physical address for Kaneland Harter MIddle School is 1601 Esker Drive, Sugar Grove, IL 60554. Enter door 18 and proceed to the 2nd door on the left - Choir Room.

There are two parts to the audition:

• Song - please prepare one of the following songs with attached performance track - sheet music and audio files will be added here soon.

  • Gerald = Don’t Go

    • Sheet Music - begin at START (last note on the first page) and sing until END (middle of last page).

    • Reference Recording

    • Performance Track - There are 4 clicks indicating when you begin to sing. Sing AFTER the 4 clicks.

  • Piggie/Squirelles = Toy Breaker - sing ONLY Piggie’s line even if you’re auditioning for Squirelles.

    • Sheet Music - begin at START and sing until END

    • Reference Recording

    • Performance Track - There are 4 clicks indicating when you begin to sing. Sing AFTER the 4 clicks.

• Sides - no preparation necessary. Sides will be provided at the time of auditions.

Other Audition Requirements:

• Please sign up on our SIGN UP GENIUS LINK to reserve your spot on either January 24th or 25th. Come at your selected audition time and be prepared to stay until you are dismissed by the production team. We anticipate auditions lasting approximately 45 minutes.

  • Friday, January 24th beginning at 5:30pm.

  • Saturday, January 25th beginning at 1:00pm.

  • If callbacks are needed, they will happen Sunday, January 26th at 1pm.

• Please complete the AUDITION REGISTRATION FORM in order for the production team to understand who you are auditioning for and what your schedule looks like. DO THIS BEFORE YOU ATTEND AUDITIONS.

• BE SURE you have check the following performance dates: March 21 - 23, 2025. Friday curtain is 7pm. Saturday has TWO performances at 2 & 7pm. Sunday’s performance is at 2pm.

• Performances take place at Kaneland Harter Middle School.

• ALSO KNOW that we hope to perform a DAYTIME School Show for area schools the morning of EITHER March 21st or March 28th.

• KNOW that we anticipate 4 rehearsals a week between 6 - 10pm at Kaneland Harter Middle School.

For your consideration, here is the Character Breakdown for Elephant and Piggie’s We Are In A Play!

• GERALD | A lumbering, somewhat formally attired elephant; prone to melancholy. Best friends with Piggie.

• PIGGIE | An ebullient, inquisitive pink pig. Best friends with Gerald.

• The SQUIRELLES | A trio of back-up singing squirrels; friends with Gerald and Piggie.

• ONE ACTOR PLAYS THE FOLLOWING non-singing roles:

  • DOG | A dutiful delivery dog,

  • PENGUIN | A sarcastic ice cream seller, and

  • STAGE MANAGER | An important member of the play.
